Managing Email Clutter: How to Find and Delete Large Attachments in Gmail
Google provides 15GB of cloud storage space for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. However, sending large attachments in Gmail can fill up this space, even if Gmail only allows 25MB attachments.
If your Google storage is filling up, consider deleting emails with large attachments. Deleting emails can free up a significant amount of space in your Google Cloud storage.
Before you proceed, you must check the Google storage used by your account. You can check this in the article provided on how to check your Google storage space.
Now, let’s dive into the matter. Here’s the easiest method to do it:
1. Search for Large Emails:
- In the Gmail search bar, type the following command and click Enter:
larger:5M
- This will display all emails with attachments larger than 5MB.

2. Select and Delete:
- You can select all the emails displayed by clicking the checkbox at the top left to select the emails on the current page.
- If you have too many emails, you may need to go through multiple pages and repeat this process.
- If you want to keep some of the emails, deselect the checkbox on the left side of the emails you don’t want to delete.
3. Delete the Selected Emails:
- After selecting the emails, click the “Delete” button (the trash can icon) to move them to the Trash folder.
4. Empty the Trash:
- To permanently delete these emails, go to the Trash folder in the left sidebar and click the “Empty Trash now.” This will remove them from your account.
If you want to keep some attachments, you can download the attachments you want to keep and then delete the email from Gmail so your storage won’t be affected by it. We hope this little trick will help you clear the clutter and reduce the storage space consumed by large attachments.
